The T-cell receptor (TCR) beta chain variable region 6 (commonly referred to as TRBV6 or its subtypes, such as TRBV6-1, etc.) is a segment of the variable region of the beta chain in the alpha-beta T cell receptor complex. This region is essential for antigen recognition and specificity in adaptive immunity. The TCR is a heterodimeric protein composed most commonly of an alpha (α) and a beta (β) chain. Each chain has two extracellular domains: a variable (V) domain responsible for antigen binding, and a constant (C) domain. The variable domain contains three hypervariable or complementarity-determining regions (CDRs), which are critical for recognizing peptide antigens presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules. The β-chain also features an additional hypervariable region called HV4 that typically does not contact antigen. CDR3 within the Vβ domain plays the primary role in direct contact with processed antigens; CDR1 and CDR2 interact mainly with MHC molecules.
