Target intelligence / Profile preview
T cell receptor beta joining 2-7 (TRBJ2-7) is one of several joining (J) gene segments in the TCR beta locus. During T cell development, the TCR beta chain is assembled via somatic recombination, joining one variable (V), one diversity (D), and one joining (J) gene segment to form the antigen-binding domain. TRBJ2-7 encodes a portion of the complementarity-determining region 3 (CDR3) in the beta chain, which is the primary region for antigen contact. The collective diversity generated by different V(D)J combinations enables the adaptive immune system to recognize a vast array of antigens. However, the TRBJ2-7 segment itself is not a protein, receptor, or enzyme but a DNA sequence that contributes to a segment of the T cell receptor. Key clarifications: - TRBJ2-7 is not a protein or functional receptor: It does not exist as an independent molecular entity at the protein or cell-surface level; its significance is in genomic recombination for TCR diversity. - Therapeutic intervention targets the T cell receptor complex or its signaling—not this individual segment. For drug and antibody development focus, one should target the T cell receptor complex or pathway components (e.g., CD3, CD28, signal transduction proteins), not individual V, D, or J segments such as TRBJ2-7.
