T cell receptor beta variable 23-1 (non-functional) (TRBV23-1)

Target
TRBV23-1
Molecular classification
Receptor (by homology, as a member of the T cell receptor beta variable gene family), Pseudogene (primary classification due to non-functionality)
01

Overview

T cell receptor beta variable 23-1 (non-functional) is a predicted non-functional open reading frame (pseudogene) within the variable (V) region of the T cell receptor beta chain. While alpha-beta T cell receptors (TCRs) are essential for adaptive immunity and antigen recognition, TRBV23-1 does not typically contribute to productive TCR chains due to altered recombination sites or amino acid changes that impair function. Unlike functional TRBV genes, TRBV23-1 rarely participates in the generation of antigen-specific T cell responses. Expression has been detected at mRNA and, in some studies, protein level, but the resulting product is generally non-functional and lacks the ability to undergo normal V-(D)-J recombination or form productive receptor complexes capable of cell signaling.

Mechanism of action

None, as there are no drugs targeting TRBV23-1 and it does not produce a functional receptor protein

03

Biological functions

Predicted involvement in cell surface receptor signaling pathway (by homology)Predicted localization to immunological synapse and plasma membranePart of T cell receptor complex; typically, functional TRBV genes encode key variable domains but TRBV23-1 is non-functional
04

Disease associations

None established for TRBV23-1, since it is non-functional and functions primarily as a transcribed pseudogene
05

Safety considerations

None reported, as TRBV23-1 does not code for a functional protein and is not a clinical or therapeutic target
06

Interacting drugs

None reported. There are no drugs known to specifically target TRBV23-1, as it is not expressed as a functional protein
07

Biomarkers

None reported for TRBV23-1 in patient selection or efficacy monitoring.
