Overview

T cell receptor delta constant (TRDC) encodes the constant region of the delta chain in the γδ T cell receptor complex, a heterodimer expressed on a subset of T lymphocytes known as γδ T cells. This receptor, part of the immunoglobulin superfamily, participates in antigen recognition, notably recognizing a variety of non-peptide antigens (such as lipids and phosphoantigens) often presented at epithelial boundaries. γδ T cells play important roles in pathogen clearance, tumor surveillance, and tissue repair through innate-like rapid immune responses. The TRDC region is generated through V(D)J recombination, providing combinatorial diversity that allows for broad antigen recognition. Aberrant function or expression of this molecule has been linked to immune diseases, including certain lymphomas and leukemias. Although TRDC, or γδ TCR as a whole, is not currently directly targeted by approved drugs, it remains an area of immunotherapeutic interest for its unique properties within the immune response[1][2][3].
