T cell receptor delta diversity 2 (TRDD2) is a genetic segment located within the T cell receptor alpha/delta locus. It encodes a diversity (D) region essential for the generation of functional T cell receptor delta chains; this diversity contributes to the recognition of diverse antigens via V(D)J recombination. The adaptive immune system relies on recombination of variable (V), diversity (D), and joining (J) gene segments to assemble T cell receptor genes. TRDD2, together with other D segments, is rearranged during T cell development to expand the functional diversity of TCR delta chains expressed by γδ T cells. This again is not a receptor or direct protein target, but a genomic component critical for immune receptor repertoire and antigen specificity.
