Overview

T cell receptor gamma joining segment JP2 is a **joining (J) gene segment** located within the human T cell receptor gamma (TRG) locus[1]. It is not a protein-coding gene nor a druggable protein but rather one of several genomic segments (including JP1, JP, J1, J2) involved in VJ recombination. This recombination process assembles the variable (V) and joining (J) elements to generate the diversity of the T cell receptor gamma chains, which are essential for antigen recognition by a subset of T cells known as γδ T cells[1][2][3]. JP2—and other similar J segments—do not encode functional receptors themselves and are not considered therapeutic targets, receptors, enzymes, or druggable entities[2]. Thus, they serve as genomic building blocks for immunological diversity but are not used as direct biomarkers or manipulated by drugs.
