Overview

T cell receptor gamma variable 11 (TRGV11) is a predicted non-functional open reading frame, classified as a pseudogene in humans[1][5][7]. It belongs to the T cell receptor gamma (TRG) locus, which consists of several variable gene segments contributing to the γ chain diversity in T cells[3]. Unlike functional TRGV genes, TRGV11 is not capable of generating a productive gamma chain due to defects in splicing and/or recombination sites at the mRNA level, or amino acid changes at the protein level[1][3]. While functional TRGV genes encode the antigen-recognition component of gamma-delta T cell receptors, TRGV11 does not participate in immune signaling or antigen recognition. It is distinguished from functional TRGVs as an open reading frame subject to rearrangement, but ultimately unproductive—meaning it is transcribed but not expressed in mature gamma chain proteins[1][3][5]. The locus is located on chromosome 7 (7p14), and its presence serves primarily as genomic background, not as a molecule with biological or therapeutic activity.
