T cell receptor gamma variable 8 (TRGV8) encodes a variable region of the gamma chain of the γδ T cell receptor complex. It participates in antigen recognition, contributing to the diversity of γδ T cells which respond to a variety of self and foreign non-peptide antigens at epithelial boundaries, including lipid antigens presented by CD1D and phosphoantigens presented by BTN3A1[1][5][6]. This receptor is a membrane protein and part of the T cell receptor complex whose engagement triggers rapid, innate-like immune responses important for pathogen clearance and tissue repair through signal transduction events in the cell[1][2][4][5]. TRGV8 is generated through V-J gene rearrangement in the gamma locus, contributing to T cell receptor diversity[1][2]. As with other T cell receptors, its role in disease is primarily through modulation of immune responses, but there are no approved drugs that directly target TRGV8, nor is it a common biomarker or pharmacological target in current clinical practice[1][4][6].
