Overview
The T cell receptor (TCR) on CD8 lymphocytes is a membrane-bound protein complex found on the surface of cytotoxic T cells (CD8+ T cells). This receptor is responsible for recognizing antigens presented by major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC I) molecules, which are displayed by almost all nucleated cells in the body. The interaction between the TCR and peptide–MHC I complexes is central to the immune surveillance and cytotoxic function of CD8+ T cells.
