Overview

T-cell receptors (TCRs) recognizing Cav p peptide–MHC class II complexes are specialized immune receptors that mediate the cellular response to allergens from Cavia porcellus (guinea pig), specifically the major allergen Cav p 1. These TCRs are expressed on the surface of CD4+ T-helper cells and bind to specific peptide fragments of the Cav p 1 protein when they are presented by Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) class II molecules on antigen-presenting cells. This molecular recognition event is a critical step in the development of laboratory animal allergy (LAA) and pet-related asthma, leading to T-cell activation, Th2-polarized cytokine release, and subsequent IgE production. Understanding the structural basis of this interaction is vital for developing targeted immunotherapies, such as peptide-based vaccines or TCR-engineered T-cell modulators, aimed at inducing immune tolerance or desensitization in allergic individuals.
