Overview

T cell response induction refers to the process by which naive T cells are activated, proliferate, and differentiate in response to antigen exposure. This is a central event in adaptive immunity, enabling the immune system to specifically target and eliminate pathogens or abnormal cells. T cell activation requires two main signals: (1) Recognition of antigenic peptide presented on MHC molecules by the TCR and (2) Engagement of co-stimulatory molecules. Without both signals, anergy can occur. Inhibitory receptors like PD-1 and CTLA-4 can suppress activation. Manipulating this process is central in therapies for autoimmune diseases, cancer immunotherapy, transplantation tolerance induction, and vaccine development.
