T cell tolerance induction via allergen presentation refers to the process by which the immune system becomes non-responsive or tolerant to specific allergens, preventing allergic reactions. This is achieved through the presentation of allergenic antigens by antigen-presenting cells (APCs) such as dendritic cells (DCs), B cells, and macrophages, which direct T cell differentiation toward regulatory phenotypes rather than pro-allergic effector types. Key mechanisms involve APC subsets like cDC1s and Rorγt+ APCs promoting regulatory T cell (pTreg) induction and cytokines such as IL-10 and TGF-β mediating suppression of allergic inflammation. This process is crucial for maintaining oral/respiratory tolerance and preventing IgE-mediated allergies and is the basis for allergen immunotherapy.
Promotes deletion of pathogenic Th2(a) populations and/or expansion/activation of regulatory populations like Tr1/Treg cells.
