T-complex 1 pseudogene 1 (TCP1P1) is a human pseudogene that is related by sequence to the T-complex 1 gene (TCP1), which encodes a molecular chaperone subunit. Because TCP1P1 is a pseudogene, it does not produce a functional protein or contribute to protein folding, cellular signaling, or disease processes. The functional gene, TCP1, is a molecular chaperone and a subunit of the chaperonin-containing TCP1 complex (CCT/TRiC), important for folding cytoskeletal proteins and implicated in cancer, but these biological roles do not apply to the pseudogene TCP1P1.
