Target intelligence / Profile preview
Th17 cells are a distinct subset of CD4+ T helper lymphocytes characterized by their production of interleukin-17 (IL-17) family cytokines, primarily IL-17A and IL-17F. They also secrete other cytokines such as IL-21 and IL-22. Th17 cells play a crucial role in the immune system’s defense against extracellular bacteria and fungi, particularly at mucosal and epithelial barriers. However, dysregulation or aberrant activation of Th17 cells is implicated in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
