T helper 17 (Th17) cell response induction refers to the process by which naive CD4+ T cells differentiate into Th17 cells, a distinct subset of pro-inflammatory T helper cells characterized primarily by their production of interleukin-17 (IL-17) and related cytokines. Th17 cells play crucial roles in host defense against extracellular pathogens, especially at mucosal and epithelial barriers, but are also implicated in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. The induction of a Th17 cell response involves antigen recognition, a specific cytokine milieu (TGF-β, IL-6, IL-21, IL-23, IL-1β, IL-7), and transcriptional regulation by key transcription factors (RORγt, STAT3, BATF, IRF4).
