Overview
The Th2 cell response is an immune response mediated by T helper type 2 (Th2) cells. It is characterized by the production of cytokines such as IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-9, IL-10, and IL-13, which promote humoral immunity, particularly IgE production, and activate eosinophils, basophils, and mast cells. Th2 responses are important for defense against extracellular parasites but are also implicated in allergic diseases and certain autoimmune conditions. The transcription factors GATA3 and STAT6 are key regulators. While generally targeting helminths and extracellular parasites, dysregulation of the Th2 response causes diseases such as asthma and allergy.
