T-type Calcium Channel Cav3 (Cav3)

Target
Cav3
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Voltage-gated calcium channel
01

Overview

T-type calcium channels (Cav3) are a subfamily of voltage-gated calcium channels characterized by their low threshold for activation and rapid inactivation. They play crucial roles in regulating electrical excitability and rhythmic firing in various cell types, including neurons and cardiac muscle cells. The family consists of three main isoforms: Cav3.1 (CACNA1G), Cav3.2 (CACNA1H), and Cav3.3 (CACNA1I). Dysfunction or mutations are linked with absence epilepsy, neuropathic pain and idiopathic epilepsy. They are targets for drug development especially for neurological disorders.
