CACNA1G encodes the α1G subunit of the low-voltage activated (LVA), or "T-type," calcium channels. These channels are crucial for regulating intracellular processes such as contraction, secretion, neurotransmission, and gene expression. It is especially important in Thalamocortical relay neurons and Pacemaking activity. Mutations affecting this protein can alter its electrophysiological properties which may result in neurological phenotypes.
