The T-type calcium channel subunit alpha1G is the pore-forming component of the voltage-dependent T-type (transient, low-voltage activated) calcium channels. These channels are crucial for mediating calcium ion entry into excitable cells and play key roles in various physiological processes, including pacemaking activity in neurons and cardiac nodal cells, hormone or neurotransmitter release, gene expression regulation, cell motility, division, and death.
