T-type Voltage-Gated Calcium Channel

Molecular classification
Ion channel, Voltage-gated calcium channel, CaV3 subfamily
01

Overview

T-type voltage-gated calcium channels are a class of low-voltage-activated (LVA) ion channels that permit the influx of calcium ions (Ca²⁺) into excitable and some non-excitable cells in response to small depolarizations of the cell membrane. The "T" stands for "transient," reflecting their rapid activation and inactivation kinetics. There are three main isoforms: CaV3.1 (CACNA1G), CaV3.2 (CACNA1H), and CaV3.3 (CACNA1I). They play crucial roles in pacemaking, neuronal excitability, hormone secretion, and smooth muscle contraction. Dysfunction is implicated in epilepsy, neuropathic pain, cardiac arrhythmias, and hypertension. Mibefradil and Ni²⁺ are known blockers.
