Target intelligence / Profile preview
The **Taï Forest virus nucleoprotein (NP)** is the most abundant structural protein in Taï Forest ebolavirus, a member of the Filoviridae family and the Orthoebolavirus genus. It forms the core of the viral nucleocapsid by oligomerizing into a helical structure that encapsidates and protects the viral genomic RNA. NP is essential for multiple stages of the virus lifecycle, including viral RNA transcription, replication, genome packaging, and nucleocapsid assembly. Structurally, the protein consists of a globular N-terminal domain that binds RNA and a flexible C-terminal domain involved in protein-protein interactions. The NP also associates with other viral proteins (VP35, VP40, VP30, VP24, and polymerase L) during the formation of the ribonucleoprotein complex required for viral replication and assembly. Differences in sequence and structure between NP from different ebolavirus species have implications for diagnostics and potential therapeutic targeting. The NP acts as a biomarker for species-specific diagnostics and is a prospective but as yet unexploited antiviral target[1][3][4][5].
Potential inhibition of RNA encapsidation, nucleocapsid assembly, or interaction with other nucleocapsid proteins (hypothetical for future antivirals)
