TAF12 divergent transcript (TAF12-DT) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located close to the TAF12 gene. HGNC defines "divergent transcript" as a lncRNA gene located 300–500 nucleotides from a protein-coding gene, typically in the opposite direction. TAF12-DT is predicted to participate in the recognition of 5'-splice sites during mRNA processing, possibly by binding pre-mRNA, but it is not a classical protein, enzyme, or receptor, and does not have a canonical role in signal transduction, cell cycle, apoptosis, or disease pathways. No known drugs target TAF12-DT, nor is it established as a biomarker or associated with safety concerns. TAF12-DT is not a conventional drug target and should not be confused with its neighboring protein-coding gene, TAF12 (TATA-box binding protein associated factor 12), which is a transcription factor involved in the TFIID complex. The target in question (TAF12-DT) functions at the RNA level, likely in pre-mRNA splicing rather than direct modulation of cellular pathways relevant to pharmacology or therapeutics.
