01

Overview

Two-pore-domain potassium channels (K2P channels) are a family of potassium ion channels that play a crucial role in maintaining the resting membrane potential and regulating cellular excitability in both excitable and non-excitable cells. They are dimeric channels with each subunit containing two pore-forming domains. K2P channels conduct quasi-instantaneous, noninactivating outward K⁺ currents, contributing to the background or leak conductance. Their activity is modulated by diverse physiological stimuli, and they participate in various physiological and pathophysiological processes.
