Targeting protein for Xklp2 (TPX2)

Target
TPX2
Molecular classification
Other, Microtubule-associated protein, Spindle assembly factor
01

Overview

Targeting protein for Xklp2 (TPX2) is a microtubule-associated spindle assembly factor required for the nucleation and organization of microtubules during mitosis and meiosis[1][2][3][4]. It interacts with tubulin to stimulate microtubule nucleation, coordinates spindle assembly around chromosomes, and is regulated by the Ran-GTP-importin pathway[1][2][4]. TPX2 activates and recruits Aurora A kinase to the spindle, is necessary for proper bipolar spindle formation, and participates in both de novo and branching microtubule nucleation[1][2][3][4][5]. In cancer, TPX2 is often overexpressed, making it a proliferation-associated marker and potential prognostic biomarker in several malignancies; however, no direct drug targets or approved therapies against TPX2 exist at present[1].
