Overview

Taste 2 receptor member 43 (TAS2R43) is a G protein-coupled receptor that belongs to the large family of bitter taste receptors, known as TAS2Rs. These receptors are primarily responsible for mediating the perception of bitterness. Upon activation by bitter substances, it triggers intracellular signaling via heterotrimeric G proteins—primarily leading to calcium release and subsequent cellular responses associated with bitterness perception. TAS2R43 also functions in non-gustatory tissues, participating in immune defense mechanisms or influencing cancer cell biology through regulation of apoptosis pathways.
