Taste receptor type 2 member 10 (TAS2R10) is a G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) involved in the detection of bitter compounds. It plays a key role in bitter taste perception, serving as a defense mechanism to help prevent ingestion of potentially toxic substances. It is broadly tuned and can recognize numerous chemically diverse bitter ligands. TAS2R10 is primarily expressed in taste receptor cells on the tongue and palate epithelia, and also in non-gustatory tissues such as smooth muscle cells within human airways.
Binding of bitter compounds activates gustducin, leading to PLCβ₂ activation, IP₃ production, Ca²⁺ release, TRPM5 channel activation, and ATP release.
