Taste receptor type 2 member 30 (TAS2R30) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) predominantly expressed in the taste cells of the tongue, responsible for mediating the perception of bitter taste[1][4][5]. It detects various chemical compounds, often associated with potentially toxic substances in food, thereby serving a protective sensory function[1][2][3][5]. While most characterized for its role in taste, like other members of the TAS2R family it may also have functions in extra-oral tissues; however, no specific systemic physiological or pathological roles are well-established for this gene. TAS2R30 operates by coupling to G proteins such as gustducin and activates downstream signaling pathways leading to nerve activation and conscious perception of bitterness[1][5]. The gene is not currently considered a major pharmacological target, and no approved drugs specifically modulate its activity. It is sometimes also referred to as TAS2R47 due to past nomenclature updates, explaining the overlap in alternative names[4][1].
