Taste receptor type 2 member 60 (TAS2R60) is a member of the bitter taste receptor family, encoded by an intronless gene on human chromosome 7. TAS2R60 functions as a seven-transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor, predominantly expressed in taste receptor cells of the tongue and palate, where it mediates the perception of bitterness and helps organisms avoid potentially harmful substances. Like other TAS2R receptors, evidence suggests it may also be expressed in extraoral tissues and contribute to a variety of physiological functions beyond taste, such as sensing chemical composition in the gastrointestinal tract and potentially participating in immune, secretory, and reproductive processes. Genetic variations in TAS2R60 have been linked to individual taste perception differences and possibly to some diseases, including maxillary cancer and submandibular gland disease. No direct drug ligands or targeted therapeutics are described for this specific receptor, but it belongs to a family well-known for interactions with diverse bitter chemicals and some drugs
