In humans, TAS2R62P is classified as a pseudogene due to multiple loss-of-function mutations (two fixed nonsense mutations and a two-base deletion), rendering it non-functional[2][3]. It is human lineage-specific, arising from relaxations in selective pressures on bitter taste perception during recent primate evolution, with no known protein product or biological activity in Homo sapiens[2].
