Taste receptor type 2 pseudogene is an unexpressed, nonfunctional sequence resembling a member of the bitter taste receptor (TAS2R) gene family. In contrast to functional TAS2R genes—which encode G protein-coupled receptors mediating bitter taste perception—this pseudogene accumulates sequence changes that prevent the production of a functional protein. Pseudogenization of taste receptor genes is common in primates and other species; these loci no longer contribute to taste signal transduction or any physiological process. ENSG00000256651/LOC100420580 lacks utility in drug discovery and is not a valid therapeutic target[1][9].
