TATA box-binding protein-like 1 (TBPL1)

**TATA box-binding protein-like 1 (TBPL1)** is a member of the TATA box-binding protein family and is encoded by the TBPL1 gene in humans. Unlike the canonical TATA-binding protein (TBP), TBPL1 does not bind the TATA box sequence but can initiate transcription from TATA-less promoters[2]. It plays a key role in transcriptional regulation, especially for genes lacking a canonical TATA box. TBPL1 is essential in spermatogenesis and may be important for the expression of certain developmentally regulated genes[1][2]. While it shares homology with TBP, TBPL1 serves specialized functions and does not bind to the same promoter elements as TBP or associate with the full TFIID complex.
