Microtubule-associated protein (MAP)

Target
MAP
Molecular classification
Protein, Microtubule-binding protein
01

Overview

Microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs) are a diverse group of proteins that interact with microtubules, regulating their stability, organization, and function. They play essential roles in cell shape, transport processes, division, migration, and neuronal development and function. MAPs bind to tubulin subunits, promoting polymerization or depolymerization, and guiding microtubules to specific cellular locations. Their binding affinity is regulated by phosphorylation. Notable members include Tau protein, APC, MAP1, MAP2 and MAP4 families.
