Tau Protein Aggregation (N/A)

Target
N/A
Molecular classification
Protein aggregate, Pathological protein conformer
01

Overview

Tau protein aggregation refers to the abnormal self-association of tau proteins into larger, insoluble clusters within neurons. This process is a pathological hallmark of Alzheimer's disease and over twenty other neurodegenerative disorders collectively known as tauopathies. Normally, tau stabilizes microtubules in neuronal axons, but when it aggregates, it disrupts microtubule function and leads to neuronal degeneration and loss. Inhibiting or reversing tau aggregation is a major therapeutic strategy for treating Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies.
