Tau Protein Expression Inhibitor

Overview

A tau protein expression inhibitor is a molecule or therapeutic agent designed to reduce the production or accumulation of tau protein within cells, particularly neurons. Tau is a microtubule-associated protein primarily found in the central nervous system, where it stabilizes microtubules and supports neuronal structure and function. Abnormal expression, hyperphosphorylation, or aggregation of tau is implicated in neurodegenerative diseases known as tauopathies, including Alzheimer's disease. Inhibiting tau expression aims to lower total cellular levels of both normal and pathological forms of tau, reduce formation of toxic aggregates that drive neurodegeneration, and potentially slow progression or modify the course of diseases like Alzheimer's.
