TBC1 domain family member 3 pseudogene

Molecular classification

Overview

TBC1 domain family member 3 pseudogenes are non-coding genomic sequences highly homologous to the active TBC1D3 gene, which originally arose from primate-specific gene duplication events[1][3]. While the TBC1D3 protein functions in macropinocytosis and cell signaling, these pseudogenes lack open reading frames capable of producing functional proteins. Pseudogene copies are typically not transcribed or translated, and do not encode regulatory or catalytic activity. Thus, "ENSG00000229286" and similar entries are not considered druggable targets, receptors, enzymes, or transporters. Their sole relevance may be as potential molecular markers in genomic studies or for mapping evolutionary events[3].
