Overview

TBC1 domain family member 9 antisense RNA 1 (TBC1D9-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the TBC1D9 gene. Like other antisense RNAs, TBC1D9-AS1 is thought to regulate expression of its sense counterpart (TBC1D9) or other genes through mechanisms such as transcriptional interference, chromatin modification, or mRNA stability. Antisense RNAs such as TBC1D9-AS1 are generally important for fine-tuning gene expression and have been shown to play roles in both normal physiology and disease by affecting gene regulation at multiple stages, but no literature directly implicates TBC1D9-AS1 in human disease or establishes it as a direct therapeutic target at this time.

Disease associations

At present, there are no direct references linking TBC1D9-AS1 specifically to disease in the indexed literature; however, dysregulation of antisense lncRNAs can be implicated in cancer and other disease contexts in general.
