Overview

TBX2 antisense RNA 1 (TBX2-AS1, LOC101927855) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed in the opposite direction from the TBX2 gene locus. It is tightly co-expressed with TBX2 and is thought to regulate TBX2 in cis, with its expression increasing in response to TBX2 or MYCN knockdown, possibly as a part of a compensatory mechanism. TBX2-AS1's detailed biological and pathological roles remain unclear, but its co-expression with TBX2—a transcription factor implicated in cell cycle progression and cancer—suggests it may participate in complex gene regulatory networks relevant to disease, particularly malignancy[2]. There are currently no drugs, direct mechanisms of action, or established safety concerns known for TBX2-AS1. Its utility as a biomarker or therapeutic target is unproven but could be explored in cancer contexts where TBX2 function is relevant[2].
