Overview

TEAD1 antisense RNA 1 (TEAD1-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) gene transcribed from the antisense strand of the TEAD1 locus[3]. As an antisense RNA, TEAD1-AS1 does not code for a protein but may regulate the expression of its sense partner, TEA domain transcription factor 1 (TEAD1), through mechanisms typical of lncRNAs, such as transcriptional interference, RNA-RNA interaction, epigenetic modification, or modulation of mRNA stability. Current literature and gene databases do not classify TEAD1-AS1 as a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or similar protein-based target. There is minimal characterization regarding its direct role in disease or its use as a biomarker, although lncRNAs in general are increasingly recognized for their regulatory roles in cancer and other diseases. Due to a lack of evidence for direct drug-targetability, disease associations, or protein-coding function, TEAD1-AS1 is currently best classified as a regulatory lncRNA, rather than a canonical therapeutic target[3].
