Teashirt zinc finger homeobox 1 (TSHZ1) is a C2H2-type zinc finger and homeobox domain-containing transcription factor, key for embryonic development, particularly of craniofacial structures, the middle ear, soft palate, skeletal system, and specific neurons. TSHZ1 is required for survival and functional organization of certain motor neurons (notably phrenic and hypoglossal) and olfactory bulb interneurons. Mutations in this gene are linked to congenital aural atresia and olfactory deficits in humans, and loss of TSHZ1 in mice causes perinatal lethality with severe morphological and neurodevelopmental abnormalities. TSHZ1 is also recognized as a serologically defined colon cancer antigen, though currently there are no clinically approved drugs targeting this gene[1][2][3][4][6][7].
