Tumor vasculature endothelial cells (TECs) are specialized endothelial cells lining blood vessels within tumors. They exhibit abnormal morphology, gene expression, and function compared to normal endothelial cells, contributing to tumor progression and metastasis. TECs are characterized by disorganized vessel structure, increased permeability, and altered expression of angiogenic factors. They play a critical role in angiogenesis, immune modulation, and drug delivery within the tumor microenvironment. Targeting TECs is a therapeutic strategy for cancer, but resistance and off-target effects remain significant challenges.
Varies depending on the target within the TEC. VEGF inhibitors block VEGF signaling, reducing angiogenesis. Other therapies target specific signaling pathways or molecules upregulated in TECs.
