Technetium Tc 99m sulfur colloid is a radiopharmaceutical agent composed of technetium-99m bound to sulfur colloid particles, primarily used in nuclear medicine for diagnostic imaging. It is administered via different routes (subcutaneous, intravenous, oral, intraperitoneal) depending on the diagnostic study and is commonly used to image the liver, spleen, bone marrow, and lymph nodes (especially for sentinel lymph node mapping in breast cancer), as well as to study esophageal transit and detect gastroesophageal reflux and pulmonary aspiration. As a diagnostic tool, it does not target a cellular or molecular therapeutic target but instead distributes according to tissue uptake and is visualized using gamma cameras based on its gamma-ray emission from technetium-99m decay. Its role is strictly diagnostic and not therapeutic.
