Target intelligence / Profile preview
Tektin-2 is a filament-forming cytoskeletal protein of the tektin family, essential for the assembly and structural integrity of flagellar and ciliary microtubules. It is specifically expressed in the testis, localizes to the flagella of mature sperm, and is indispensable for proper sperm motility, fertilization, and mitochondrial function. Mutations in Tektin-2 have been associated with defective sperm flagella and reduced motility, contributing to male infertility. Additionally, upregulation of Tektin-2 has been observed in podocytes in diabetic nephropathy, where it may participate in abnormal cytoskeletal remodeling
