Tektin-4 is a structural, filament-forming protein that associates with tubulin in microtubules, primarily functioning in sperm flagella to stabilize the axoneme and regulate motility. Sequence analyses show it contains a conserved tektin domain and coiled-coil regions typical of filamentous cytoskeletal proteins[1]. TEKT4 genetic variations have been linked to altered microtubule dynamics and increased resistance to paclitaxel in breast cancer, as well as to impaired sperm function and male infertility[3][1]. TEKT4 is not a conventional therapeutic target, but its genetic variants are of interest as cancer resistance biomarkers.
