Target intelligence / Profile preview

Ten-eleven translocation oncogene 2 (TET2)

Target
TET2
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Dioxygenase, Transcription factor, Histone modification
01

Overview

TET2 is a methylcytosine dioxygenase enzyme that plays a crucial role in epigenetic regulation by catalyzing the conversion of 5mC to 5hmC, a key step in DNA demethylation. It acts as a tumor suppressor, particularly in hematopoietic stem cells, influencing blood cell development and differentiation. Mutations in TET2 are associated with various hematologic malignancies and clonal hematopoiesis. Loss of function typically results in decreased levels of genomic 5hmC, making it a potential biomarker.
