Overview

Tendon tissue is a dense, fibrous connective tissue that attaches muscle to bone and is responsible for transmitting contractile forces to enable joint movement. It is composed mainly of type I collagen, with minor components including proteoglycans, elastin, glycosaminoglycans, and various glycoproteins, produced by tenocytes and tenoblasts. "Recipient tendon tissue" refers specifically to the portion of a tendon receiving a graft or used as the site of surgical repair, rather than representing a molecular target or receptor. Tendon tissue exhibits hierarchical structure and specialized cellular composition supporting force transmission, but is not characterized as a single, draggable molecular entity and does not interact with drugs in a target-specific manner.
