Teneurin transmembrane protein 1 (TENM1) is a single-pass type transmembrane protein primarily expressed in the nervous system. It belongs to the tenascin family and teneurin subfamily, and plays key roles in neural development, particularly in establishing proper connectivity within the nervous system. TENM1 may function as a cellular signal transducer and its intracellular domain can induce gene transcription activation. It is typically expressed as a homodimer at the membrane and is found in neurons across various regions of the brain and other tissues. TENM1 is implicated in neurodevelopmental processes and potentially in cancer pathophysiology due to its expression profile. There are currently no established therapeutics or biomarkers specifically targeting TENM1.
