Tenocyte differentiation is the process through which cells, such as mesenchymal stem cells, differentiate into tenocytes, which are crucial for the structure and function of tendons. This process involves several transcription factors, growth factors, and physical cues to promote the expression of tenogenic markers and the production of extracellular matrix components necessary for tendon health and repair.
TGF-β promotes tenogenic differentiation by activating the TGF-β signaling pathway. Physical cues like mechanical stretching and topography also promote differentiation.
