Teratocarcinoma-derived growth factor 1 (TDGF1)

Target
TDGF1
Molecular classification
Growth Factor, GPI-anchored cell membrane protein, Co-receptor, Co-ligand

Overview

Teratocarcinoma-derived growth factor 1 (TDGF1), also known as Cripto, is a GPI-anchored cell membrane protein that functions as a co-receptor and co-ligand for the TGF-beta family member Nodal in embryonic signaling pathways. It plays a critical role in mesoderm induction during gastrulation and stem cell maintenance. TDGF1 is overexpressed in various cancers and is implicated in tumor growth and metastasis. Mutations can cause forebrain defects such as holoprosencephaly.
