Terminal nucleotidyltransferase 2 (TENT2)

Target
TENT2
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Non-canonical poly(A) polymerase, Terminal nucleotidyltransferase
01

Overview

Terminal nucleotidyltransferase 2 (TENT2, also known as GLD2 and PAPD4) is a cytoplasmic, non-canonical poly(A) RNA polymerase that adds adenosine residues to the 3' end of specific mRNAs, forming poly(A) tails. Distinct from canonical nuclear poly(A) polymerases, TENT2 selectively polyadenylates cytoplasmic RNAs and participates in the processing and stabilization of certain microRNAs through monoadenylation. It has established roles in mRNA modification, miRNA metabolism, and RNA surveillance, and mutations have been associated with rare neurological and metabolic diseases. TENT2 is a member of the terminal nucleotidyltransferase (TENT) enzyme family.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable/no drugs established—TENT2 acts as an enzyme that post-transcriptionally modifies RNA tails, mainly by adenylation.
