Target intelligence / Profile preview
Testis expressed 28 pseudogene 3 (TEX28P3), also referred to as "TEX28 pseudogene 3," is a pseudogene in the human genome, related to the active gene Testis expressed 28 (TEX28)[3][5]. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences similar to known genes but are typically non-functional due to disabling mutations, lack of regulatory elements, or inability to encode a protein[2][4]. The broader TEX gene family encodes proteins largely involved in spermatogenesis and male fertility, but pseudogenes like TEX28P3 generally do not produce functional proteins and their biological role, if any, is usually limited to potential regulatory effects at the RNA level—such as generating regulatory RNAs or acting as competing endogenous RNA[4]. There is no evidence that TEX28P3 acts as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or drug target, and it is not considered a therapeutic target. Furthermore, there is often limited or no direct evidence for involvement of pseudogenes in disease, drug interaction, or use as biomarkers[2][4]. Thus, TEX28P3 is best classified as a non-functional genomic element, and inclusion as a biological target is incorrect based on current scientific standards. Notes: - TEX28 (Testis expressed 28) itself is an active gene associated with certain forms of colorblindness, but this does not apply to the pseudogene TEX28P3[3][5] - No data exists to suggest that TEX28P3 is targeted by or interacts with any known drugs, nor is it linked with a mechanism of action, biomarker utility, or notable safety issues. - Listing TEX28P3 as a therapeutic target or receptor is scientifically inaccurate. Summary: TEX28P3 is a pseudogene with no confirmed protein product or functional biological role, and is not considered a drug target or therapeutic entity[2][4].
